At the newest family run shop in town that just opened this year, you will not only find an extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff but also recipes, samples, ideas and many local products.
Olive oil has many uses, most commonly as a salad dressing or for cooking. The flavour easily varies with quality and origin. The region, altitude, harvesting and the process of extraction all play an important factor. All of this information is easily found on the fustis along the shelf. Each little hanging card provides you with information such as intensity, crush date, a description of the flavour, technical information (polyphenols, oleic acids) and the country of origin. At the Olive Oil Co you will only find the highest quality oilve oils. Along with this information you can also find helpful recipe cards. The flavoured oils and the flavoured balsamics together can create some amazing dishes. The endless combinations can be used in appetizers, main courses, desserts and even drinks! With 57 different flavours there is always something new to try. A simple bread dip or salad dressing can be transformed with a twist of a delicious new flavour.
If you follow along on social media sites you can find people sharing the dishes they are creatively coming up with. Honey Ginger Tangerine wings, Blood Orange Banana bread, classic uses like bruchetta and parings with charcuterie boards are all becoming popular.

The balsamics in the shop are also just as important as the oils and just as high in quality. Aged Espresso, Sicilan Lemon, Aged Peach, Dark Chocolate and my favourite, Cranberry Pear, all have a unique and distinct flavour that stands out.
If you are looking for a different way to impress while entertaining try muddling fresh fruit in a complementary flavour of a light balsamic. Allow it to soak and serve in sparkling water over ice. A refreshing idea!

The try before you buy concept really allows you to experience the difference. The oils and balsamics are available in 60 mL, 200 mL, 375 mL and 750 mL. The smallest size is perfect for sampling and experimenting while the large sizes are great for if you have found an everyday favourite. It’s also quickly gaining popularity as a gift for any occasion. Host, birthday, a gift for a foodie or even with the Holiday season approaching. Around the shop you can find prepacked bottles or create your own gift combination. Theme packs like Pina Colada with Pineapple and Coconut white balsamics, Hot Mama with Chipotle, Baklouti and Harrissa oils along with Jalapeno Balsamics and salad dressing packs all line the shelves ready for giving.
You can also find a growing selection of cooking and baking items such as Gluten Free, spreads, dip mixes, pastas and hot chocolate mixes. A large number of which are local to Ontario or Canada. The love for all things local is extremely important to this family. Serving up a quality product, working with local chefs, restaurants, other local businesses and services shows their commitment to our community. From an inspirational trip to Kingston trying for the first time to now owning their own shop, the Borne family will be able to help you create the perfect gift or bring your dinners up to gourmet meal status!
